Who doesn’t love talking about themselves? Since that is what the about page is….
well… about, I am grateful and fortunate that I have a lot to tell. My name is D.J. Stange (spelled ‘strange’ without the “r”, pronounced like ‘Mustang’ without the “Muh”), and I would like to thank you for stopping by to visit.
I studied Jazz Piano Performance at Florida State University from 1996 – 1999, and I subsequently signed a record deal with Curb/Warner Brothers as a bassist and songwriter for my band. Between touring 23 countries, visiting all 50 states, and playing a total of 2,086 shows, I both recorded and produced a culmination of 6 national albums and 8 indie records. It was a love of the recording process and editing that drove me to my second passion and career: media production.
After becoming the head producer at a local Tallahassee TV station in 2006, I returned to Florida State in 2008 and earned a B.S. in Media Production (Masters equivalent); while still working full time. Because the program only took 20 students a year, competition was steep- to say the least. During my tenure, I fell in love with special effects and 3d modeling and animation. During my last year, I had the opportunity to teach 3D animation and special fx. Additionally, I worked in depth with Seminole Productions, FSU’s professional production group.
Shortly after graduating in 2010, I chose to relocate to my childhood home of Maryland. Within six months of networking and bartending (never underestimate the power of a shot on the house), I had landed a freelance gig at Comcast Sportsnet. A year and a half passed rather quickly, then in 2011, an opportunity presented itself. One of the senior staff at CSN recommended me to the Washington Capitals hockey team and Monumental Sports & Entertainment. I spent five wonderful years there and built the motion graphics department from a team of two into a well-oiled machine with a full staff.
After five years with the Capitals, Wizards, and Monumental Entertainment, life once again steered me my next adventure- working with the Baltimore Orioles as a motion graphic designer. My repertoire includes web content, in-game content, multi-platform motion graphics, marketing planning & strategic design, and operating in-game CGI, camera, camera assist, storytelling and messaging conveyance.
I learned years ago that I find myself in these amazing positions not merely because I can make a dragon fly through a video screen, but because of my creative capabilities, experiences, and understanding of my mediums. I operate with the believe that it is my responsibility to offer the reasoning for what I present, however, the entity for which I am creating has the final say. I am extremely passionate about my art form, and I love being a team player.
Whether you are here because you have a need of my skills, are a fellow artist, or accidentally clicked the wrong page, it is a pleasure to have you here!
